Top 5 Film & Television Apps in Brazil: Q1 2021 Performance Overview

The first quarter of 2021 has been eventful for the Film & Television category in Brazil. Here, we delve into the performance of the top five apps in this segment, based on data provided by Sensor Tower.

Disney+ saw a decrease in both downloads and revenue over the quarter, starting at 1.2M downloads and $313K in revenue in the last week of December, dropping to around 339K downloads and $221K by the end of March. Weekly active users also saw a downtrend, from 3.9M to 3.3M.

In contrast, Globoplay: Novelas, séries e + experienced a significant uptick in January, with downloads peaking at 733K and revenue hitting $678K. However, both metrics saw a decline towards the end of the quarter, with downloads at 335K and revenue at $523K. The weekly active users showcased impressive growth, starting at 5.4M and reaching a high of 12M in early February, before stabilizing around 11.7M by March end.

Netflix showed a steady performance in terms of revenue, with a minor fluctuation between $63K and $84K. Downloads, however, decreased from 462K to 383K over the quarter. Weekly active users saw a decline from 36.5M to 33.9M.

Pluto TV: Watch & Stream Live had no recorded revenue, but downloads and weekly active users presented an interesting trend. Downloads peaked at 494K in early March, then dipped to 332K by the quarter's end. Active users saw growth, starting at 476K and reaching nearly 968K in the last week of March.

Lastly, Amazon Prime Video showed minimal revenue, but downloads and weekly active users had modest trends. Downloads saw a peak of 375K in mid-March, with a slight decrease to 278K by quarter-end. Active users experienced a slight uptick from 2.95M to 2.8M during the quarter.
